Mother Road

Mother Road is easily one of the coolest sims on Second Life these days. The first time I visited years ago, it was just one sim – now it has become several sims full of residences and things to see.

It’s beautiful. I’ve been to the real life desert wastelands of California, Nevada, and Arizona many times and the Mother Road sim really does capture the feeling of being in those places. Both the real world and virtual world simulation of Mother Road are desolate, full of garbage and sleaze, and beautiful.

Beyond just visiting and seeing the sims for yourself, Mother Road is also a good destination for roleplayers. There are quite a few public locations where you can rp hanging out in roadside diners, getting drunk and chatting in dive bars, wake up in a jail, and get down and dirty in a very sleazy motel. If you know where to look, you can even camp out squatter-style and watch the sunset (the sims’ windlight is always set to “sunset” for some reason).

For sl photographers, there are numerous picturesque settings and sim policy encourages photography by allowing visitors to rez poses and props.

If you find yourself seduced by the well-designed beauty of the place, then you can also rent there as well. I think there’s something to be said for renting on such immersive sims like this group. Isn’t it cool to walk out of your house and into a well-made, beautiful and interesting virtual world?
